RULE OF THIRDS
A NEW SKIN GEOGRAPHY

Dr.Age has applied the practices of plastic surgery to address each area of the face with hyper-targeted products.

FULL FACE

Facial aging occurs as a result of changes to the skin and soft tissues from the forehead to the jawline. Factors that influence external skin changes include genetics, skin type, cumulative sun exposure, facial movement, and weight fluctuations. Over time, facial fat and skin thins, gravity pulls on the soft tissues from the cheeks to the chin. Creases and wrinkles will deepen and become more prominent, and vertical muscle bands may appear on the neck. Dr. Age created an edited range of products to address specific concerns for each third of the face, as well as the neck. It is not just another ‘one size fits all’ skincare regimen; rather product selection is intended to be personalized to each individual to achieve maximum effects with minimum intervention.

UPPER THIRD

From the hairline to the upper eyelid.

The first signs of aging may appear in your 20s to 30s on the upper third of the face in the form of horizontal and vertical lines that are caused by facial expressions like squinting and laughing.

The eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body, which accounts for why you may see wrinkles form early in that area. The frontalis muscle in the forehead is responsible for the horizontal lines that form over time. The corrugator and the procerus muscles create the vertical lines between the brows, referred to as “frown lines”.

Dr. Age has selected an array of potent ingredients to specifically address these areas, including skin barrier boosters, crosslinked hyaluronic acid, stabilized vitamin C, gallic acid, and crosslinked glucoaminoglycan.

MIDDLE THIRD

From the lower eyelid to the upper lip.

As we age, we lose facial fat volume and skeletal bone density. Fat deposits in the middle third of the face tend to shift downward with the force of gravity, especially for individuals whose faces thin as they age. These changes can result in nose-to-mouth folds and a flattening of the cheeks. To address the age-related changes in the mid-face region, Dr. Age included blends of collagen and elastin boosters, horse chestnut, Alpha-Bisabolol, 3D Microlift Biopolymer, plus vitamin E and other potent antioxidants into the products that target this area.

LOWER THIRD

From the upper lip to the jawline.

Changes in the lower third of the face may appear as deepening of the nose to mouth folds, smile lines, formation of jowls, softening of the angle between the chin and neck, as well as muscle banding of the neck. Loss of muscle tone and thinning skin may give the face a droopy or saggy) appearance. Loss of bone mass in the jaw may reduce the size of the lower face and cause the forehead, nose and mouth to look more pronounced. For specialized products to be used on the lower third of the face, Dr. Age selected novel ingredients that have a tightening and lifting effect on the skin, including niacinamide, caffeine, palmitol peptides, seed extracts, and skin hydration enhancers.

EYES

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest and most delicate skin in the face and requires a very careful approach. As we age, the eyelid skin loses elasticity, the orbicularis oculi muscle that supports the eyelids weakens, and underlying fat migrates forward and becomes more noticeable. These changes contribute to the appearance of aging eyes with loose, crepey skin, puffiness, lateral wrinkles or crow’s feet, and discoloration. For the fragile skin around the eyelids, Dr. Age sought out unique combinations of key ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, stabilized L-ascorbic acid, polyphenols, yeast extract, and other actives that work synergistically to restore a more youthful eye contour.
